The Innovation & Analytics team is a core component of AXIS’s strategy, with the potential to transform the way in which we do business and enable us to effectively leverage data and technology to our competitive advantage. The central mandate is to horizon-scan, prototype and implement innovative solutions to business problems.
What will you do in this role?
As a Data Scientist Analyst within the Innovation & Analytics team, you will be working to support the delivery of business-critical projects to our underwriting partners and beyond. You will support Innovation & Analytics Leads and the Lead Data Scientist with data gathering, data analysis, code development and deployment. Through this team we will deliver solutions using both traditional data science techniques, machine learning and GenAI.
In this role you will be responsible for:

Collecting and wrangling datasets, including liaising with owners of datasets to understand and cater for nuances of source systems.

Applying traditional machine learning techniques, such as regression, classification, and clustering, to build predictive models and solve business challenges.

Leveraging generative AI models to create innovative solutions, automate processes, and generate insights from unstructured data.

Supporting the testing, prototyping and development of data science solutions to business problems, led by the Lead Data Scientist in support of the Innovation & Analytics Leads.

Supporting the development and deployment of business-led analytics microservices, utilising Azure Functions and other similar technologies.

Supporting the review of third party products and data vendors.

Supporting the generation of reports and presentations to clearly articulate findings, in partnership with Innovation & Analytics Leads.

Developing your knowledge of the (re)insurance industry, AXIS’s business structure and the coverages that we offer, to become a well-informed technical business partner.

Building relationships with key business partners, supported by Innovation & Analytics Leads and the Lead Data Scientist.
About You:

What you need to have:

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a highly analytical subject; professional experience in data science.

Strong knowledge of SQL and Python/R for producing data science work product.

Strong data collection & data wrangling skills, using these platforms.

Experience with traditional machine learning techniques (NLP, Classification, etc.)
-
Strong communication skills, with a proven ability to win confidence of colleagues.

Strong knowledge of modern technologies.

A naturally curious disposition and an entrepreneurial desire to explore innovative solutions.
What we prefer you to have:

Experience with Databricks and Azure Cognitive Services

Up to date knowledge of advancements in Generative AI / LLMs.

Experience with Azure DevOps and GitHub

Familiarity with standard corporate deployment processes

Working knowledge of the specialty insurance industry

Technical data visualization skills (e.g., using d3)
