Purpose
The Bank’s Internal Audit Department plays a key role as the third line of defense. The Retail Credit Risk Audit Group has responsibility for providing independent assurance over the effectiveness of controls for retail and small business risk management.
The objective of this position is to support and manage audits to assess the design and operational effectiveness of internal controls and regulatory compliance relating to credit risk management activities in Canada and International locations.
The incumbent will be required to work as part of a team that audit major business lines in assessing controls relating to credit lifecycle (i.e. origination, adjudication, account management and collections). In particular, the strong SME component of the role requires the incumbent to have strong demonstrable skills in data analytics and knowledge of credit risk modelling/ strategies and risk management frameworks. The incumbent will ensure that department standards are met on all assignments.
Accountabilities

Ensures Scotiabank standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics are maintained in completion of all assignments.

Acts primarily as team participant or in some cases act as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) on assignments of low to medium complexity for assigned projects, processes, and units. Executes assigned audit activities independently as a team member under the direction of the OIC on assignments. This includes completion of audit testing, discussions with management and documentation of work performed.

Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Obtains a thorough understanding of the business/unit/process and associated risks, supports the planning of audits or assigned areas, ensuring scope and extent of work is in accordance with the approved plan, and audit methodology.

Ensures nature and extent of testing is appropriate to support the objective, scope and overall opinion. The incumbent will provide value-added recommendations to management as part of audits or on special projects / assignments.

Conduct data analytics to support relevant audit projects as required. Develop and/or enhance dashboards to enable data-driven continuous monitoring and auditing.

Ensure timely completion of workpapers, ensures internal control weaknesses are clearly documented with recommendations addressing the root cause and findings are communicated timely to management.
Education/Experience

3-5 years of experience in retail credit risk management, knowledge of risk management regulation framework. Prior experience with SOX controls (IFRS9) is preferred.

Proficient in advanced data analytics, credit risk modeling techniques and analytical tools (SAS, SQL, R, Python, Alteryx).

Working knowledge or experience in Machine Learning techniques (clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and other advanced statistical analysis techniques and concepts is an asset.

Proficient experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI is preferred.

Highly motivated self-starter with good project and time management skill, thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Has the ability to work on multiple projects at any given time.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to collaborate with teams and management at various levels. Experience in writing and presenting data analytics/MIS results.

Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Statistics, Computer Science, Finance) or related experience.

Spanish language skill would be an asset, though not required.
