The purpose of the Data Governance Officer is to build and lead the data governance strategy and function with accountability for enterprise wide delivery data guidelines, controls and oversight over key data governance deliveries
What you’ll do
-
Lead the charge in building outstanding data governance capabilities into the framework of Aviva’s culture, ensuring data strategies and principles are applied consistently across the organization and data risks are considered throughout the data lifecycle.

Work proactively with internal partners including legal and data privacy to proactively be ahead of regulatory changes impact data governance within Aviva

Collaborate and take joint-accountability with IT, CDO office and data owners to build a compelling strategy for improving our data standards and practices in order to use data as a strategic asset.

Work with group data operations and governance teams to maintain alignment between group frameworks and policies and provide adequate reporting

Be a champion for our customers. Work diligently to protect customer data while taking a risk-based approach to enabling the effective use of data for solutions that will benefit our customer.

Grow data literacy and data maturity across the organization through effective communication strategies and training that will build core data proficiencies in both data-related and business roles.

Build, monitor and maintain data risks and controls, ensuring existing risks are led back to tolerance and emerging risks are understood and adequately articulated in the risk and control framework.

Ensure data governance activity, data risks and issues are actively communicated, with risk position well understood, to senior leaders through the Operational Risk Forum and Conduct Committee.

Use our quantum and global partnerships to accelerate Aviva’s growth and innovation in data across the globe.

Define and implement the organizational structures and operating models needed to support the objectives of the data governance program.

Possess the ability to influence at senior executive levels and empower others, including those who do not have a direct reporting relationship.
What you’ll bring
-
15+ years of strong, diverse experience in the data management and data governance. Experience in the risk and controls space is an asset combined with deep technical leadership experience.

Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business or related fields

Demonstrable experience in leading data governance and risk functions within large organization.

Team management including experience in developing teams with an enterprise- function or mandate as well as operational forums or committees.

Experience in a complex, multi-functional organization where your teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across many fields.

Validated data and technology literacy – the ability to describe use cases and outcomes, data sources and management concepts across business and technology domains

Hardworking and innovative with an ability to inspire colleagues, achieve buy-in from partners and delight the customer

Strategic business acumen, change management, and continuous improvement champion
