Job Summary
Mississauga’s City Planning Strategies Division is looking for a Planning and Spatial Data Analyst to strengthen our growing data practice. We are seeking candidates who are curious and passionate about planning and data, can balance multiple priorities, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and apply analytical thinking and geospatial solutions to work through complex land use planning problems.
The successful candidate will help to analyze planning data; develop population and employment forecasts; develop and maintain planning and demographic projections; provide guidance on information planning analytics; support the creation of geographical information system (GIS) web applications; provide innovative solutions to problems; respond to demographical databases; and, deliver updates on Mississauga population, housing and employment requests for information. Work with clients to provide simplified solutions to issues encountered. Extensive computer and software use including databases, spreadsheets, data analytic, publishing, presentation, MS Office and GIS software is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Subject matter expert for all inquiries relating to the City’s population and employment growth forecasts, Census, development pipeline, and other data products
- Develop and maintain planning databases relating to growth forecasts, housing, population, employment, industrial and commercial/retail activity
- Collect, create, maintain, analyze data and provide statistical advice for the development of official plan policies, land use and community plans and policies
- Design and conduct surveys
- Analyze GIS, Census data, and other demographic, economic, housing and socio-economic indicators
- Coordinate review and collect planning and GIS requests and prepare custom data/information as requested for internal and external groups, ensuring accuracy and data quality
- Produce reports for council, City staff, City’s website and the media
- Suggest innovative methods to develop and improve existing and new data products
- Develop GIS web applications, maps and dashboards using ESRI products
- Liaise with other departments and agencies regarding planning databases and related products
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications

University degree in urban and regional planning, geography, geographical information systems, statistics or related discipline is required

Minimum of 3 years professional experience in urban planning, geographic and statistical analysis and/or growth forecasting is required

Experience with ESRI suite of products including, ArcGIS Pro and extensions and ArcGIS Online is required

Experience with population and employment growth projections/ forecasting, demographic and housing data analysis

Experience with data analytical software such as Power BI, Excel, and Tableau

Familiarity with 3D Visualization concepts using ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Urban, or City Engine is an asset

Experience with Open Data and AI is an asset

Effective writing, oral communications and knowledge of planning policies

Ability to be prioritize, multitask and produce accurate work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Membership or eligibility for membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute is an asset
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 76,313.00 – $ 101,753.00
